18. Total housing loan special deduction
If you are not declaring total housing loan special deduction, mark “No” then click “Next.” Please proceed to the next page "Income adjustment deduction".
If you acquired a house this year, please select "No." You need to file a tax return for the first year; from the second year onward, you can declare the deduction through year end tax adjustment.
If you have acquired a house for the second year or later and are declaring a total housing loan special deduction, please have the following documents ready at hand and check "Yes".
●Housing loan special deduction declaration form
For those who filed a tax return in the first year, the tax office will send you a set of multiple copies around October as documents to be used for filing in the second and subsequent years (for a 10-year deduction period, a set of 9 copies). One copy will be used for submission each year.
Eligible employees: This applies to those who started their residence before or after January 2020 and did not request receiving their certificates electronically when filing their first year's tax return.
<Those who requested delivery via e-Tax when they filed their tax return via e-Tax>
Receive the digital data of "Housing loan special deduction form" via e-Tax. After that, download the declaration form with QR code as a PDF file using the "QR code-attached certificate creation system". Upload the downloaded PDF file to Workcloud.

Note: Certificates with QR codes for "Housing loan balance certificate" issued by financial institutions are not supported. Please submit in paper document.
●Housing loan balance certificate
You will receive this around October every year from the financial institution you deal with. If you have multiple mortgages, you will need each of them. Please make sure that each document is for the current year.
Differences from the past regarding Housing loan special deduction declaration form
Those who declare the deduction
Enter the appropriate method from Patterns A, B, or C below.
■Patterns B Those who have entered the information on this screen in the previous year
Patterns A Those who are declaring a housing loan deduction from Workcloud for the first time (declaring with a paper deduction and certificate)
You will not be uploading a QR-coded certificate. Please submit the form by attaching the paper-based Housing loan special deduction declaration form and Housing loan balance certificate to the "Confirmation cover sheet for year end tax adjustment documents" output from the "Print forms" at the end of the wizard.
① Click "Yes."
② Click "Add."
③ Enter required details and accurately.
If you refinanced your housing loan to another financial institution, please specify “Have you refinanced your housing loan?: Yes”.
Specify “Yes” not only for those who refinanced this year, but also for every year after the year of refinancing.
Enter the current year's amount in the “Housing loan balance at end of year” and “Housing loan deduction amount” fields.
If the amount is blank or 0 yen, a message will appear at the top of the screen after you press the Save button in ④ and you will not be able to complete your save.
For input details, see the hints that appear by clicking on the orange "? mark in each field, or refer to the explanatory text below each setting field.
④ Click "Save."
Once all required fields have been filled in, you will be able to "Save".
If a required field is not filled in somewhere, it is grayed out. Please make sure that the required fields such as "Housing loan balance at end of year" and "Housing loan deduction amount" have not been entered.
Note: You do not upload the certificate with QR code in the "QR code file from National" field.
⑤ Total amount of housing loan deduction" reflects the amount entered in "Housing loan deduction amount".
⑥ Click "Next."
※If you have more than one lender from a financial institution, please use the "Add" button before ⑥ to enter and save the information for the second lender.
Enter all the information and click "Next".
Patterns B Those who have entered the information on this screen in the previous year
The message "We have detected that you have declared housing loan deduction last year. You can copy values that do not change from year to year from your previous declaration by clicking “Copy this” link from the table below‥‥" is displayed.
The same information you declared last year that is expected to remain the same this year (e.g., "First occupancy date," "Housing loan deduction type," "Housing loan special status, etc.") can be reflected.
Enter only those fields that have changed from last year (e.g., "Housing loan balance at end of year" and "Housing loan deduction amount, etc.") and declare this year.
Copy the previous year's information and declare
① Click 'Yes' on "Will you declare housing loan payments deduction?".
※Do not select 'No'. If you select 'Copy this' after this, the previous year's information will not be carried over. You will have to enter everything without the previous year's information.
② Click on "Copy this." The data will be carried over to create this year's record in areas that have not changed from the previous year.
③ Enter the fields that have changed from the previous year.
If you refinanced your housing loan to another financial institution, please specify “Have you refinanced your housing loan?: Yes”.

You do not need to upload the certificate file with QR code in the "QR code file from National". Please submit the form by attaching the paper-based Housing loan special deduction declaration form and Housing loan balance certificate to the "Confirmation cover sheet for year end tax adjustment documents" output from the "Print forms" at the end of the wizard.
●Those who upload a certificate with QR code for the housing loan special deduction declaration form
(This applies to those who started their residence after January 2020 and who requested receiving their certificates electronically when filing their first year's tax return.)
You need to upload the appropriate PDF file from "QR Code file from National" for the Housing loan special deduction declaration form.
Please submit the form by attaching the Housing loan balance certificate from the financial institution to the "Confirmation cover sheet for year end tax adjustment documents" output from the "Print forms" at the end of the wizard.

Note: A paper-based Housing loan balance certificate from your financial institution must be submitted.
